Problem with Outlook Express
-
Tuesday, March 09, 2010 2:52 PM
( #1 )
All of a sudden Outlook Express has stopped sending emails until I go and click "send and receive". This is a pain in the neck because I receive assignments via email and I just about didn't get my assignments in time. I went into options and the box "play sound when message arrives" is checked. As soon as I click send and receive - I get the little envelope and the sound. But its supposed to automatically do this without my having to click. Can you tell me how to fix this please?

Have you looked in the Options for a box about how often Outlook Express should check for emails.? I don't have OE on here but I think Windows Live Mail has similar settings and on the General page there are options for sending and receiving at startup and checking every so many minutes, see if anything has been altered there.

It's been a while since I've used OE but if I remember correctly OE sends mail when the Send/Receive options tell it to. That is, if you have it set to send/receive every hour then that's what it will do. It's your choice as to how often it sends. I think I had it set for every 10 minutes. If you want to send mail right away pressing Send/Receive is the way to do it. It sounds like OE is working fine but you may have that time set too high. Look through here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/using/howto/oe/composesend.mspx

Yes, thanks. I changed it to 10 minutes and now it seems to be working fine. So what does everyone else use for mail with Windows XP - or do you all have something newer than that? I guess I would prefer Outlook to Outlook Express, but I can never find a way to save my address book, short of copying them all down on a piece of paper and typing them in again. I did that when I got my new computer and I don't fancy a repeat performance!!

If you're OK with OE in XP there's no reason to change really. It's been a while since XP for me. I use Outlook in Win 7.

I use Windows Live Mail on a Windows 7 machine, I've used that on XP, Vista and now Windows 7. I've never used Outlook even when I had it and now I only have the Student version of Office that doesn't include Outlook. My husband still uses Outlook Express on an XP machine, he's happy with that set up.

I use Windows Live Mail and have come to like it although part of me wishes you could still run Outlook Express in Win 7.
