A rather pleasant surprise, Win 7 install. - Monday, March 08, 2010 6:04 PM ( #1 )
Right at the end of February I went from the RC to the final version of Win 7.  I also went from 32bit to 64bit.

I must admit to being surprised at my performance.  Just using my XP virtual machine as an example the performance is better.  Part of this MIGHT be better drive performance as I went from using my PATA drive for the OS and data to my SATA drive.  Since my virtual machines are stored on my data drive it might account for some of the performance difference.

One thing that concerned me on going to 64bit is that I only have 1gig of memory.  While I had nothing factual to back this up I just assumed that 64bit would use more memory.  I really don't know why I thought that but just did.  Everything is working wonderfully.

No question here.  Just wanted to express my good experience.  I used to say that Win 2000 was the best OS Microsoft ever built (XP included) but seem to be changing my mind to where 7 is the best.

I think Windows 7 is great also.
I hear and I forget.
I see and I remember.
I do and I understand.

I didn't go for the 64 bit  merely because I still need updated drivers for my Netgear wireless... I'm also leery of drivers for my video card.  I almost couldn't effectively upgrade to 32 bit because of driver issues.  I look forward to when I can use the 64 bit version.

Jay i couldn't agree more about Win2K...

But every release of Win7 right up to the final has convinced me as well...
