Hi all I have a Dell Optiplex GX270 Desktop PC with built-in graphics controller. The Model of that graphics controller is Intel 82865G. I want to connect my PC to a TV set. My question is how do i know if Video Card of my system supports TV (RCA / S-Video) output through VGA Port ?

If there is no RCA plug or s-video plug on the PC and only a VGA port, it isn't supported. You would need to make a VGA connection to the TV or get a converter/adapter to do this. Or you add a video card to the PC that supports the desired output. -steve

what kind of converter/adapter do I need ? Can you be more specific. Can you put a link where I can see how does that converter/adapter look like ?

It isn't a matter of an adapter or converter. You have onboard video. You would have to add a separate video card.

MacDuffie It isn't a matter of an adapter or converter. You have onboard video. You would have to add a separate video card. That is not really true, Patty. There are many adaptors that connect to the VGA port on a computer and branch off to another VGA port along with TV connections. I used to use one on my entertainment system before I got a video card with TV out. What I'm talking about just gives output to a TV. It does not cover having a TV tuner on the computer. Of course there is also a wide selection of such tuners.

OK, Jay I have checked the website you gave me, and I am considering to buy EVGA GeForce FX 5200 / 128MB DDR / AGP 8X / VGA / TV Out / Video Card from Tigerdirect.com But if I buy it, is it compatible with my PC mother board ? Thanks to all who replied.

You would have to look at the specifications for your motherboard. Does it have an AGP slot or just PCIe? Either AGP or PCIe slots can handle video cards but they are not interchangeable. An AGP card can not go in a PCIe slot nor can a PCIe card go in an AGP slot. Doing a quick search on your system it looks to allow for AGP but not PCIe. If this proves to actually be the case the card you listed should work. Something to keep in mind is that I did not look up the video card you listed. It is possible that you could do the same thing for less money by getting an adaptor instead of an entire video card. Also remember to keep in mind that if the TV is not HD the computer text will be quite fuzzy. Games and movies will tend to display just fine but such things as the text under a desktop icon will be hard to read. Do NOT expect to be able to browse the internet on a TV display that is not HD.

Jay, Since you say I could do the same thing for less money by getting an adapter instead of an entire vidwo card, can you list links for any of the Adapters you know of that can be used with Desktop PC so that I can connect it to a TV set. Thanks

Look at post #5 above. There are two links. One to Tiger Direct, the other to New Egg. These are two on-line stores that I use.
