hello again, i have a hp nx6125 laptop. recently i tried to install windows 7 but ran into trouble when it had a admin password. as i had never set one i decided to reset it via removal of cmos battery. (no i didnt steal this computer it was one of my old work laptops). my problem is now the computer wont boot!!, everything has power ie cd drive etc, but there doesnt seem to be power going to the screen ie no backlight. is there a quick fix???? i do no hp government comps do have anti theft protection but have no idea where to start....... your thoughts???? thanks again ( oh and there are no bios beep codes etc)

Did you put the battery back? Check all connections around the battery. You may have knocked something loose when removing the battery.

To be honest I just do not know. I do know that on some Dells there is a jumper on the motherboard to turn off and on a password.

Changing the BIOS chip on a laptop isn't easy. You might as well buy a new one for what it's going to cost you. Try going into the BIOS setup and reset to the default settings. Play around with that. What does this mean please? i do no hp government comps do have anti theft protection

sorry about late reply... "anti theft protection" not sure of the correct wording but basically some ex-gov laptops once u remove cmos, u have to hold certain buttons in at start up to get computer to boot. unfortunately i dont even get a bios screen...... strange, looks like the old girl may be done for . thanks anyway everyone. tim

You might contact some folks at your old job and see if they can help with figuring out what those certain buttons are.
