We will try...but I do not know if it will work with Win 7 or not. I have never seen this problem before with Win 7. What version are you running?

The thing i am noticing is that .doc files seem to be irrevertably associated to the free 'wordpad' app that comes with the build?

I have sent you the fix that worked for Vista.

In Win 7, as with Vista, to change a file association you just need to click the start button then type in "file association" (without quotes) when it finds the Change file association link just open it and you will see how to make changes there.

Would it be possible for you to send me the registry fix as well?  My laptop originally came with MSWorks.  Then I upgraded to MSOffice and as others have said, it won't allow me to associate .doc with WORD (I uninstalled Works after I installed Office, not sure if that had to do with the issue or not).  I was running Vista at the time.  I recently upgraded to Win7 and uninstalled and then reinstalled MSOffice and the problem has persisted.  I'm not saavy enough to mess with my system registry on my own, so the fix you have created sounds like exactly what I have been hoping for.
Thanks.

Great, and if you read the code you will see there is nothing there but a registry fix........

To read the code of the fix, just right-click it and choose Edit.

I will send you the fix via an attachment to a PM. Please let us know here if it works for you. We had a fix for Vista that worked perfectly. This one is based on that fix but it is for Windows 7 and it has not been tested enough yet.

Frankly I do not like the program CCCleaner. I have seen it cause more problems than it has fixed. I am glad that it worked for you this time.

Re:can't associate microsoft word with .doc - Wednesday, February 03, 2010 4:01 PM ( #498 )
Hi,

I am having a similar problem. My operating system is Windows Vista. I have just got Office 2007 as an upgrade from Office 2000, and I can't get it to associate my old .doc files with Word however much I try. I have to open word and open and convert each file individually, which is a bit time consuming!

Would it be OK if you sent me the fix too?

Thanks,

Andy

I will do so.  Your situation doesn't sound exactly the same, so it may not fix it - but it won't hurt.  I'll send you the fix.

Hi,
I have got the same problem for Microsoft Word and all my doc files show the symbol of wordpad. I cannot set their default to ms word. I read about this fix. Can you send it to me also. I am running MS Office 2003 on Windows vista. Will this fix run for this platform? Also how to run the fix can you explain?
