Katy, This thread is getting long, and I am going to go back to a basic, did you go to control panel/printers and select install a new printer/network printer? That should direct it away from installing the printer on the USB port on that machine.

Yes Bill I went to the printers folder to try to install the printer. I tried the local printer method with the Urmas's suggestion of using Run command first which results in the printer icon install that asks for the USB port and also tried the network printer method which results in the 0x0000000d error message so it's not installed at the end. I would say we've done enough with this thread. Thanks anyway Bill.

OK, but you do know how we all hate to give up...... I have my printer installed on a wireless print server, hardwired to the Vista computer. The other desktop talks via the wireless/wired hub, and of course the two laptops talk via wireless connections as well. It was a simple install and went in without a single problem. I was hoping that we were missing something basic.

My network communicates for wireless internet just fine, including file sharing. I just don't have a wireless print server device for my printer, only my belkin router which worked fine with XP on both computers.

Yes, I understand that...and realized my situation was different when I was responding to you. I will play with the printer tomorrow and see if I can go to it on the network.

http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/showpost.aspx?postid=1242846&siteid=17 Go to Control Panel. Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer. Choose Add a local printer. Click on Create a new port. The default in the drop down box is Local Port. Do not change that. Click Next. A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name. Type in the \\computer name\printer name ie. My computer's name is basement and the printer name is EpsonSty so I typed in \\basement\epsonsty
